The fourth annual Haunted Futures Conference will take place from 29th to the 30th of September at University College Cork. Supported by UCC’s Collective Social Futures, the conference proposes to explore hauntings as potent staging grounds for radical social change, which in their dismantling of hegemonic capitalist, imperialist relationships to time, provide a means of imagining new futures in the late-capitalist Anthropocene, and empowering marginalised and exploited identities, both human and otherwise.

This year's theme ‘Spaces in Crisis' considers the intersection between spaces and their histories, both human and non-human, exploring “haunted” buildings, locations, and environments and their relationship to crisis as a potent staging ground for radical imaginaries of the future and vital points of contact with hard histories.

Project’ and ‘Those Who Came Before the Chinatown Mega-Jail’, Moriah Esquivel Narang ‘Those That Remain: An Examination of Los Angeles General Hospital’s Social History and Hauntings’, Kajetan Poniatyszyn ‘Spectacles in Former Corporate Buildings: The Anti-Capitalist Dimension of Contemporary Polish Weird Fiction’, and Christian Schroder ‘Haunted Naves: Empty Churches, Lost Futures, and the Crisis of Sacred Space in Western Europe’, chaired by Jessica Mc Kinney in the Dorah Allman Room at 3.30pm on Tuesday 29th September.

The Creative Showcase will include a Short Fiction reading, Cricklewood by Jessica Mc Kinney, and Film presentation, The Concrete Seed: A New Town Fable by Jamie McNeill, in the Dorah Allman Room at 4.30pm.
